As much as I want to poke fun at the fact that an astonishing number of people don’t know that USB is a computer term or that a gigabyte is a measure of hard drive space, this article is an incredible reminder:
It’s easy to forget that people outside your field don’t know much about it.
It’s not uncommon for me to forget that many people don’t know the basics of the things I’ve spent literally thousands of hours on. When trying to communicate, it’s important that we distill down to basics and explain things in common language whenever possible. If not possible, then the “jargon” needs to be explicitly and clearly explained beforehand.
